On successful completion you will have the knowledge and skills to:

  • Correctly prescribe exercise programmes specifically for the older adult
  • Integrate and embrace altered programme design protocols for older adults
  • Plan and design effective training programmes for mixed fitness levels specific to the goals of the participants
  • Explain the benefits of exercise programmes that can improve the older adults’ ability to efficiently accomplish activities of daily living

Our Exercise for the Older Adult Team

Only fully qualified tutors deliver the Exercise for the Older Adult course, with each tutor having recognised industry and educational experience in their individual fields.

Michelle O’Melia, MSc

Michelle has been delivering educational excellence at the National Training Centre since 2000. She is passionate about all aspects of fitness and health and holds a Masters Degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science from the University of Chester.

Michelle teaches exercise to music, anatomy and physiology, fitness assessment and exercise physiology on our primary health fitness programmes and also delivers suspension training and indoor cycling.

Laura Connick BSc

In addition to the National Qualification in Exercise, Health Studies and Personal Training, Laura holds a BSc in Sports and Exercise Management from UCD and has worked in some of Dublin’s most established gyms.

Laura specialises in helping clients to achieve and maintain optimal body weight and ensures they achieve their goals in a healthy and sustainable fashion.

Laura is dedicated to continuing professional development and constantly expands her knowledge base and training to ensure she can provide the best advice to her clients.

Noeleen Gregory, MSc

Noeleen Gregory is expert in a variety of modules on various NTC courses including:

  • Resistance Training
  • Exercise Principles
  • Fitness Assessment
  • Sports Nutrition
  • Pilates
  • Stability Ball Training
  • Exercise for Older Adults

Her knowledge and wisdom is impeccable and is backed up by a life dedicated to exercise and nutrition – both personally and professionally. Noeleen has an innate ability to transfer knowledge to students in an informative yet relaxed atmosphere. Her enthusiasm and passion for fitness has influenced thousands of students to pursue a career in the health fitness industry.

Noeleen is also the National Training Centre’s examinations coordinator and is a highly respected member of the tutoring team for the Dundalk Institute of Technology’s B.Sc (Hons) in Health and Physical Activity.

Ray Lynch BSc, MA

Since graduating with the National Qualification in Exercise, Health Studies and Personal Training in 2001, Ray has worked in the health fitness industry with various gyms and corporate health facilities, such as Ulster Bank and University College Dublin, mainly facilitating group exercise classes, indoor cycling classes and personal training.

In 2002 Ray was awarded his honours degree in Health Services Management from the Dublin Institute of Technology and went on to complete a Masters in Management with the IPA/University College Dublin in 2006.
