Pre and Post Natal Exercise Certification Course

Adaptations required for exercise prescription for pregnant clients and those who have recently given birth.

Successful completion of this pre and post natal training course will give qualified health fitness instructors and personal trainers the knowledge and skills to help pregnant clients participate in exercise programmes.

The National Qualification in Pre and Post Natal Exercise covers all relevant areas to ensure that you offer safe and effective exercise prescription to pregnant clients and those who have recently given birth.

On successful completion you will have the knowledge, skills and qualification to:

  • Correctly prescribe exercise programmes specifically for pregnant clients and those who have recently given birth
  • Integrate and embrace altered programme design protocols for pre and post natal clients
  • Plan and design effective training programmes for mixed fitness levels specific to the goals of the participants

The standard cost of the National Qualification in Pre and Post Natal Exercise course is €180.0

The discounted rate for graduates of National Training Centre fitness instructor and personal trainer courses €150.00.

Eligibility

The National Qualification in Pre and Post Natal Exercise course is open to fitness professionals who hold a recognised, valid and current primary fitness instructor qualification which is accredited or mapped at EQF Level 3 or higher.

Not all primary fitness instructor qualifications meet the minimum standard required. If your primary fitness instructor qualification does not meet the requirements NTC will be unable to award a certificate for this programme, even if you have completed it, so if you have any doubt about whether your qualification meets the requirements please submit a copy of your primary fitness instructor qualification for approval at least two weeks prior to the start date, or contact the NTC prior to enrollment.

  • Physiological and Biochemical changes during pregnancy
  • Benefits of exercise and resistance training during pregnancyResistance Training Programmes and suitable exercise prescription for pregnant clients
  • Studio Strength and Muscular Conditioning exercises during pregnancy
  • NTC National Standards and Guidelines for Exercise and Pregnancy
  • Post pregnancy guidelines and suitable exercise prescription
  • Assessment

This course is available as a one day advanced certification programme in Dublin at the National Training Centre in Dublin’s city centre and in Cork at the Mardyke Arena, UCC.

Our Pre and Post Natal Exercise Team

Only fully qualified tutors deliver the National Qualification in Pre and Post Natal Exercise, with each tutor having recognised industry and educational experience in their individual fields.

Michelle O’Melia, MSc

Michelle has been delivering educational excellence at the National Training Centre since 2000. She is passionate about all aspects of fitness and health and holds a Masters Degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science from the University of Chester.

Michelle teaches exercise to music, anatomy and physiology, fitness assessment and exercise physiology on our primary health fitness programmes and also delivers suspension training and indoor cycling.

Laura Connick BSc

In addition to the National Qualification in Exercise, Health Studies and Personal Training, Laura holds a BSc in Sports and Exercise Management from UCD and has worked in some of Dublin’s most established gyms.

Laura specialises in helping clients to achieve and maintain optimal body weight and ensures they achieve their goals in a healthy and sustainable fashion.

Laura is dedicated to continuing professional development and constantly expands her knowledge base and training to ensure she can provide the best advice to her clients.
