Manual Therapists and Movement Practitioners Forum 2019

A two day international CPD Forum for Movement Practitioners of every stripe

OVERVIEW

Join ICOM in Cork February 9th and 10th 2019 for two days of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Three international experts on Biotensegrity and Fascia providing science based presentations and each offering a three hour practical hands-on masterclass.

Plan now to attend ICOM’s Biotensegrity and Fascia Science forum providing unique science based presentations to professionals working in the areas of Medicine, Osteopathy, Physiotherapy, Neuromuscular Therapy, Chiropractic, FSM, Strength and Conditioning, Massage, Yoga, Pilates and Personal Training.

Re-evaluate your practice with the most up-to-date research from recognised experts across all the disciplines.

Our line up of recognised experts will share with you the latest fascia research and its implications in clinical practice for manual, movement and medical practitioners. Sharing the science of how Biotensegrity provides the logic behind their expertise at the leading edge of manual and movement science will inform and change your clinical practice.

Whether you are a movement, manual or medical practitioner, you should not miss learning this new logic behind the inner intelligence of our innate form and function. Participants will learn how the human body connects through the fabric of our fascia. You will discover a new means to see more clearly while making sense more easily, intervening less, yet achieving more for your clients and patients.

Biotensegrity provides a seamless transition from classical anatomy and biomechanics to the modern science of human movement and Anatomy for the 21st century.

Biotensegrity makes fundamental sense of so many questions arising in the anatomy classroom, the science laboratory, the therapy room, the athletic track or field and the gym.  As this keystone concept is being realized, researched and widely accepted worldwide, it is becoming essential to know how it applies in practice.

DETAILS

John Sharkey's Masterclass

Biotensegrity-Anatomy for the 21st Century

Exploring the embryological origins of our fascia and our whole self.  Join Clinical Anatomist John Sharkey for a fascinating presentation linking knowledge gained through Thiel soft-fixed cadaveric dissection studies that provide evidence of our new understanding of continuity, force transduction, physiology and motion.

John’s masterclass will include manual and movement modalities of European Neuromuscular Therapy.

Plasticity in the fascial system is the key to our shape shifting, shape changing body as it does daily from conception to death. From the moment of conceptus to the last breath taken we are moving or at least something is moving. We work to keep still and we work to move. Appropriate movement provides the body with health related benefits while lack of movement, inappropriate movement or virtually no movement (lack of vitality or animation) moves us closer to illness, injury or at worse, death.  John will integrate advanced neuromuscular techniques with movement to promote fascia as the hydraulic pump transforming the therapeutic benefit of your manual therapy regardless of your stripe.

PRESENTERS

JOHN SHARKEY

John is an accredited Clinical Anatomist and Exercise Physiologist and is author of five books in addition to contributing to the third edition of the renowned Travel and Simons Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction Trigger Point Manual (In Press). He is a pioneer of the Levin biotensegrity model providing dissection courses with a special focus on biotensegrity. John is an accredited member of the British Association of Clinical Anatomists (BACA) and is an Exercise Physiologist (BASES) having received his qualifications from Liverpool University, University of Chester and Dundee University, Scotland.

John is a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies (JBMT), a reviewer for the International Journal of Osteopathic Medicine and the International Journal of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. He is the programme leader for the Masters degree in Neuromuscular Therapy and a senior tutor with the University of Chester.

JOANNE AVISON

Joanne is an international teacher of applied structural anatomy for movement and manual practitioners in a variety of fields. She is a professional Structural Integration practitioner and certified teacher (KMI, Anatomy Trains 1998-2005 Tom Myers’ school) and Director of the Art of Contemporary Yoga Teacher Training, London, UK. As a Member of the BioTensegrity Interest Group (B. I.G.), Joanne is fascinated by the application of BioTensegrity principles to the understanding of the human blueprint and natural biomotional organisation. Her writing and workshops are devoted to making this emerging context for human movement applicable and clearly understood.

GRAHAM SCARR

Graham is a chartered biologist and an osteopath with a particular interest in structural mechanics. Fascinated by the numerous examples of geometric patterns and shapes in nature, he has been researching their significance over many years. He is part of a specific interest group looking at the significance of the biotensegrity concept to biomechanics and clinical practice. Working closely with Dr. Stephen Levin he has developed new models that progress our understanding of the structure-function relationship in biology. Graham is a Fellow of the Linnean Society and a fellow of The Royal Society of Biology, and has published several papers on this subject.
