Overview
This NTC advanced dry needling workshop has been designed exclusively for all practitioners that have completed a formal course specific to dry needling of myofascial trigger points.
This workshop provides the opportunity to receive detailed critique and review of your needling techniques as well as an opportunity to take part in a clinically driven discussion and question sessions.
Participants must have completed a formal course specific to dry needling of myofascial trigger points such as the National Qualification in Trigger Point Needling.
All participants are expected to participate in the hands-on portion of the workshop.
The practical session will include muscles that are often the culprits or major pain contributors to conditions such as;
- Headache
- Toothache
- TMJD
- Facet dysfunction
- Low back and pelvic pain
- Elbow/Shoulder pathologies
- Carpal and tarsal tunnel syndromes
- Knee, hip, plantar and pedal pain
- Compartment syndromes
- Pelvic floor pain.

Theory - Review NTC dry needling principles, standards and guidelines
- Discussion of advanced clinical applications and case studies
- Participant driven clinical discussion
- Current research review and discussion
Practical - Review and critique of dry needling techniques
- Advanced skills specific to the following regions: Sub-occipital, Pelvic, Facial muscles, Muscles of mastication, Para-spinal, Hands and Feet
- Demonstrations and further practical in response to group requests

Exercise physiologist and physical therapist, John Sharkey MSc, is an accepted pioneer and leading expert on the application of Dry Needling for the effective treatment of Myofascial Trigger Points. John is a member of the Science and Medical Team for the Olympic Council of Ireland and the editorial board of the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies. John also works closely with the world renowned Leon Chaitow.
Cristopher Alejandro, originally from the Philippines, is a qualified physiotherapist and neuromuscular therapist. Cristopher also holds the National University of Ireland's certificate in Training and Continuing Education.

Do I need to hold any other qualification in order to participate on this workshop ?
Yes. Individuals wanting to participate must have completed a formal course specific to dry needling of myofascial trigger points.
Will I need to get insurance ?
The National Training Centre's code of ethics insists that all Trigger Point Needling graduates who are actively working in the profession, hold a professional indemnity insurance policy which covers the therapist against legal action taken by a patient as a result of an injury received during treatment. Therapists who are working on private premises may also need to hold public liability insurance. The Association of Neuromuscular Physical Therapists (ANMPT), which all of our Trigger Point Needling graduates are entitled to join, has negotiated a very attractive professional indemnity block insurance policy which offers extensive cover for practitioners.
