Overview
This course is designed to provide Pilates Instructors with the skills and knowledge necessary to integrate small equipment into their group classes and personal training programmes.
This course will incorporate a unique blend of small props (foam roller, balance board, pilates ball, mini ball, therabands and isotoners) to enhance and challenge your Pilates mat repertoire. These small props add a unique proprioceptive challenge to the original exercises as well as providing support and assistance to the more challenging Pilates repertoire.
All participants must hold the National Qualification in Pilates Matwork Level 1 or equivalent.
Evidence of equivalent Pilates training and qualifications must be approved by the National Training Centre's Educational Committee prior to enrollment.
The National Qualification in Pilates and Small Equipment covers all relevant areas including:
- Principles of Exercise modifications using small equipment - Foam roller, Balance boards, Pilates ball, mini ball, Therabands and Isotoners
- Increasing and decreasing the overload of the mat-based movements
- Challenging balance and the deep core muscles with movement variations and stretches
- Muscle balancing and safety adaptations for special conditions
- Correct and safe use of this small equipment
- Choreography, linking and movement combinations
- Teaching practice and effective cueing skills.
The cost of the National Qualification in Pilates and Small Equipment course is €295.00. All course fees are non refundable and must be paid before the commencement of each course.

Do I need to hold any other qualification in order to participate on this programme ?
Yes. All participants must hold the National Qualification in Pilates Matwork Level 1 or an equivalent primary Pilates qualification. Not all primary Pilates instructor qualifications meet the minimum standard required. If you have any doubt whether your qualification meets the requirements please contact the NTC prior to enrollment.
What will I be qualified to do when I complete this course successfully ?
On successful completion you will be fully qualified to use Pilates small equipment in your group or 1-2-1 Pilates sessions.
Will I need to get insurance ?
The National Training Centre's code of ethics insists that all NTC graduates who are actively working in the profession, hold a professional indemnity insurance policy which covers the instructor against legal action taken by a client as a result of an injury which was received when following instruction. Instructors who are working on private premises may also need to hold public liability insurance if such cover is not held by the owners of the premises.
