The Register of Exercise Professionals

In the absence of any legislation, regulations or Licencing, there are currently no restrictions on anyone offering training and claiming to be qualified to teach exercise or fitness classes or gives gym instruction/personal training. Following on from the REPS Registers established in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, REPS Ireland has been established by ILAM (who are the Employers and Industry Body for the sector in Ireland). REPS Ireland has agreed mutual recognition with REPS UK and agreements with other countries is expected to follow in the near future through EREPS, ICREPS and directly with other National registers.

The European Health & Fitness Association

EHFA, is a not-for-profit organisation representing the interests of the sector in Brussels with the EU, the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne and the World Health Organisation in Geneva. With its objective to get more people, more active, more often, EHFA is a standards setting body of the health and fitness industry in Europe and promotes best practice in instruction and training.

The European Register of Exercise Professionals

The European Register of Exercise Professionals

The European Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPS) is an independent process for the registering of all instructors, trainers and teachers working across Europe in the exercise and fitness industry. It is a pan-European system, based on independent national registers, culminating in a central European database. Registration means that you as an exercise professional has met prescribed minimum standards of good practice, including the adoption of a Code of Ethical Practice.

Mardyke Arena

The Mardyke Arena is the fitness facility of University College Cork and the National Training Centre's National Qualification in Exercise, Health Studies and Personal Training and the National Qualification in Neuromuscular Physical Therapy are delivered here. Other advanced certification programmes are also available from the NTC at the Mardyke Arena.

eLF Project

eLF Project

The eLF project has been established to create a European training system for e-learning in fitness to cover the minimum standards for both the theory (knowledge) and the practical skills and competencies and to create a platform for an interactive national professional register which will collaborate with other international registers.

They develop and award a diverse suite of qualifications that are delivered through a range of institutions including private training providers, universities, colleges, prisons and schools within the UK and internationally. Their suite of qualifications is highly respected amongst industry experts, employers and learners both in the UK and internationally. The Advanced Diploma in Pilates Matwork offered by the NTC is YMCA Awards accredited.

Sports Massage Association (SMA) UK

Sports Massage Association (SMA) UK

The SMA is a professional representative organisation for Sports Massage Therapists practicing in the UK.

Members of the SMA will be able to identify anyone for whom Soft Tissue Therapy would be ill-advised or detrimental to their short or long-term well being. They will assess each individual and provide the appropriate massage techniques, and advise on alternative action if required.
