Following successful completion of this course, you will be able to:  

  • Correctly prescribe exercise programmes specifically for the older adult
  • Integrate and embrace altered programme design protocols for older adults
  • Plan and design effective training programmes for mixed fitness levels specific to the goals of the participants 
  • Explain the benefits of exercise programmes that can improve the older adults' ability to efficiently accomplish activities of daily living
Course Details

ELIGIBILITY
The National Qualification in Exercise and the Older Adult is open to fitness professionals who hold a recognised, valid and current primary fitness instructor qualification which is accredited or mapped at EQF Level 3 or higher.

Not all primary fitness instructor qualifications meet the minimum standard required. If your primary fitness instructor qualification does not meet the requirements NTC will be unable to award a certificate for this programme even if you have completed it so if you are in any doubt whether your qualification meets the requirements please submit a copy of your primary fitness instructor qualification at least two weeks prior to the start date or contact the NTC prior to enrollment.


SYLLABUS
The National Qualification in Exercise and the Older Adult covers all relevant areas including:  

  • Benefits of exercise and the older adult
  • Explore the objectives of the older adult
  • Understand the key physiological considerations in developing comprehensive exercise programs for older adults
  • Understand a variety of acute and chronic adaptations in relation to exercise and the older adult
  • Develop screening & evaluation methods
  • Be aware of the current research on exercise and the older adult
  • Appreciate the need for appropriate exercise prescription for the older adult
  • Develop optimal training methods
  • Explore nutritional needs of the older adult
  • Assessment

FEES
The fee for the National Qualification in Exercise and the Older Adult course is €180.00 which must be paid before the start of the course.

The exercise for the older adult training course runs in the National Training Centre, 15-16 Saint Joseph's Parade, Dorset Street, Dublin 7 on the following dates in 2017.


April 2nd - 10am to 5pm


September 10th - 10am to 5pm
