The aim of this programme is for all bodywork therapists, sporting coaches etc. to develop the professional skills required to identify common injury sites and to offer professional intervention in relation to the preparation and treatment of the site using taping and strapping.

All applicants must hold a valid and recognised bodywork qualification or be involved in the coaching of sporting teams. Ideal applicants include Neuromuscular Therapists, Physiotherapists , Sports Coaches etc.

Applicants must hold a valid First Aid certificate with a minimum of six months validity remaining. The First Aid Certificate must have been issued by a recognised authority in the area of first aid.

Individuals who do not hold a current First Aid certificate may still participate but the certificate for Taping and Strapping Procedures will not be issued until such time as the participant obtains First Aid certification.

All  tutors are trained professionals with a vast amount of industry experience. The National Qualification in Taping and Strapping Procedures has been developed, and will be delivered, by tutors with the specific skills and tutoring qualifications in this area as a result of many years of study with organisations such as the National Sports Medicine Institute (UK), a recognised leader in bodywork education in the UK.

Graduates of the College of Complementary Medical Education will receive 20 CEUs (Continuing Education Units) for their CPD (Continuing Professional Development) obligations.

You will need to participate in CPD in relation to the National Qualification in Taping and Strapping Procedures in order to maintain your licensing status. CPD is a prerequisite for insurance eligibility.

The cost of the National Qualification in Taping and Strapping Procedures course is €255.00. All course fees are non refundable and must be paid before the commencement of each course.

The National Qualification in Taping and Strapping Procedures covers all relevant areas including:

  • Identification of common injury sites
  • Accessing suitability for strapping
  • Identification of appropriate strapping technique for specific injuries
  • Preparation of injury site for strapping and rationalisation of need for underwrap etc.
  • Strapping application, binding and subsequent removal.
  • Kit bag and material requirements
  • Practical strapping demonstrations for ankle and foot, lateral / collateral ligament, hamstring, thumb and fingers, wrist and elbow including student participation.

Do I need to hold any other qualification in order to participate
on this programme ?

Individuals wanting to participate on the National Qualification in Taping and Strapping Procedures programme must hold a bodywork qualification or be involved with the coaching of sporting teams. All participants must also hold, or be in the process of obtaining, a valid First Aid certificate.

What will I be qualified to do when I complete this course successfully ?
You will have the professional skills required to identify common injury sites and to offer professional intervention in relation to the preparation and treatment of the site using taping and strapping procedures.

Will I need to get insurance ?
The National Training Centre's code of ethics insists that all Taping and Strapping Procedures graduates who are actively working in the profession, hold a professional indemnity insurance policy which covers the therapist against legal action taken by a patient as a result of an injury received during treatment. Graduates who are working on private premises may also need to hold public liability insurance. The Association of Neuromuscular Physical Therapists (ANMPT), which all of our Taping and Strapping Procedures graduates are entitled to join, has negotiated a very attractive professional indemnity block insurance policy which offers extensive cover  for practitioners.

Is this qualification accepted internationally ?
Yes. Graduates are free to offer their services worldwide. Some countries may require licencing. If you intend to offer Taping and Strapping Procedures services in another country we advise that you check the regulations of that country to assertain the legal status there.

How long does this course last ?
The National Qualification in Taping and Strapping Procedures is a one day course.

How much does this course cost ?
The National Qualification in Taping and Strapping Procedures costs €255.00

Can I pay by installments ?
No - There are no installment options available for this course.

Are there grants available to cover tuition fees ?
The National Training Centre is a FÁS approved training provider. National Training Centre’s approved Training Programmes and Trainers have been placed on the FÁS/EI National Register of Trainers.  The registration number of National Training Centre is 903336. Many of our students receive funding for part or all of their course fees through FÁS, the Department of Social and Family Affairs, Skillnets and local Employment and Development projects. Individual students must contact their local office to enquire about eligibility.

Do I have to participate in work experience ?
No. There is no requirement for work experience participation.

Where is this course available ?
The National Qualification in Taping and Strapping Procedures is available at the National Training Centre in Dublin, The Mardyke Arena U.C.C. in Cork and the Aura Leisure Centre in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.

How will I be assessed ?
Students of the National Qualification in Taping and Strapping Procedures are assessed through both written and practical examination at the end of the course day.

What age group participate on this course ?
Students of all ages participate on the National Qualification in Taping and Strapping Procedures.

What is the success rate ?
Over 95% of students participating on the National Qualification in Taping and Strapping Procedures will successfully complete all of their final examinations on the first attempt. Every individual's ability to succeed will be in direct proportion to the number of tutorials attended and the commitment and time and effort they are prepared to commit to their studies.

How much of the course is practical and how much is theory ?
The National Qualification in Taping and Strapping Procedures is primarily practical with some theoretical aspects included to provide the knowledge required to back up the practical applications
