Overview
The aim of this programme is for fitness instructors to develop a critical understanding of Aqua Fitness Training and to enable them to obtain the high standards required to teach Aqua Fitness safely and effectively to the general public following the National Standards & Guidelines as set down by NCEHS.
The National Qualification in Aqua Fitness is open to application from all fitness professionals who hold a recognised, valid and current qualification from NCEHS, NCEF, ITEC etc.
The qualification must include exercise to music. Not all primary fitness instructor qualifications meet the minimum standard required. If you have any doubt whether your qualification meets the requirements please contact the NTC prior to enrollment.
The National Qualification in Aqua Fitness covers all relevant areas including:
- Exercise Physiology - specific to Aqua training & buoyancy.
- Class Design - how to structure an effective aqua class, suitable exercise selection, training effects, use of equipment etc.
- Warming up and Cooling down
- Increasing and decreasing Intensity
- Injury Prevention including Contra indications, exercises to avoid etc.
- Suitability of Aqua training for: Pre & Post Natal Clients, Elderly Clients, Injuries & Rehabilitation
- Music Selection - Tempo, BPM etc.
- Creative Class Concepts.
- NCEHS National Standards and Guidelines
The cost of the National Qualification in Aqua Fitness course is €275.00. All course fees are non refundable and must be paid before the commencement of each course.
Graduates of the National Qualification in Exercise, Health Studies and Personal Training receive a €30.00 discount on fees for this course and can participate at the reduced cost of €245.00

Do I need to hold any other qualification in order to participate on this programme ?
Yes. In order to participate on the National Qualification in Aqua Fitness programme you must hold a current, valid and recognised fitness instructor qualification. Certificates will not be issued in respect of the National Qualification in Aqua Fitness until participants have submitted copies of their primary fitness instruction qualifications. Graduates of the National Qualification in Exercise, Health Studies and Personal Training do not need to submit copies of their primary qualification as the NTC will have this information on file. Not all primary fitness instructor qualifications meet the minimum standard required. If you have any doubt whether your qualification meets the requirements please contact the NTC prior to enrollment.
What will I be qualified to do when I complete this course successfully ?
On successful completion you will be fully qualified to deliver safe and effective water based fitness classes to groups of individuals.
Will I need to get insurance ?
The National Training Centre's code of ethics insists that all NTC graduates who are actively working in the profession, hold a professional indemnity insurance policy which covers the instructor against legal action taken by a client as a result of an injury which was received when following instruction. Instructors who are working on private premises may also need to hold public liability insurance if such cover is not held by the owners of the premises.
How long does this course last ?
The National Qualification in Aqua Fitness is a two day Advanced Certification Programme.
How much does this course cost ?
The National Qualification in Aqua Fitness costs €275.00. Individuals who hold the National Qualification in Exercise, Health Studies and Personal Training receive a discounted rate of just €245.00. In line with all National Training Centre programmes there are no additional or hidden fees in relation to this programme.
Where is this course available ?
The National Qualification in Aqua Fitness is delivered by the National Training Centre at various venues throughout the country.
How will I be assessed ?
Students of the National Qualification in Aqua Fitness will sit a written and practical examination at the end of the second tutorial day.
What age group participate on this course ?
Students of all ages participate on the National Qualification in Aqua Fitness.
What is the success rate ?
In excess of 95% of students participating on the National Qualification in Aqua Fitness will be successfully examined at the first attempt.
Can I pay by installments ?
No - there is no installment payment option available for this programme.
